At a Distance

A couple of months

Have passed me by

It is amazing how fast

Time can fly

You wonder why

You haven’t gotten much done

With your life

You wonder where you spent

So many hours

Was it worth the waiting?

Was it worth the time it took

To reach this destination?

How far you have traveled

To come to this place

Still baffles my mind

Because I cannot imagine

Such a distance

Unless I can experience

Such a distance

All that I know

Are these city streets

I have not even seen the ocean

And I tell myself

That I have to keep that promise

To myself

That I will not go to see it alone

That the person with me

When I get to see the ocean

Will be as special to me

As this new experience
