Through the streets
At the early light
Of dawn
Plastic flamingo
Poised on
A manicured lawn
You go out
Onto your porch
Water your flowers
Grab the newspaper
Thrown
From across the yard
Into the tangle
Weeds overgrown
You still find it hard
To read the newspaper
Without coffee
In your broken
Blue cup
Because you think;
It’s only full
When it’s filled up
