Dog Into Diamond

She told me
That I reminded her
Of a puppy who's been kicked
To some degree
I took this for an analogy
I took it to mean that she
Could see
That life's been cruel to me
That I wanted to love
Unable to trust
Not knowing where to go
Or what to do
Helpless
She called me a diamond in the rough
All of a sudden a dog turns into a diamond
Roughcutt; Something hidden in a name
They called me this
Because I could rough it
But I couldn't cut it
It turns out
I wasn't cut out
For it
